What is a college?

It shouldn’t be a place,

Where you sleep in class,

And after it you seek romance.

It shouldn’t be a Disneyland,

Where only play and no work,

Makes Jack an idiot.

It shouldn’t be a professional training ground,

Where you spend money,

And you might reap a job permit,

But with your characters and personality lost.

It shouldn’t be a church,

Where the priest preaches,

And his flock obey and follow suit.

It shouldn’t be, worst of all, a prison,

Where no freedom is given,

And even fresh air and free time are forbidden.

Then, what is a college?

It should be a place,

Where there’re not merely class lectures,

But with a profound, casual cultural atmosphere.

It should be a sea of knowledge,

Where you are taught to swim,

And you can and should learn swimming yourself.

It should be a beautiful garden,

And you are a busy bee,

To make honey from various flowers.

It should be a the blue sky,

And you are a brave eagle,

Soaring high, without shackles, at will.

It should be a furnace,

Where your heart and soul are tempered,

Like the Monkey King, you shall see things thro’.
